Finding out what some of our favorite characters are doing and why they disappeared after being absent from the spotlight for so long comes as quite a surprise.

We find it hard to comprehend that the celebrities who often graced our television screens made the decision to disappear from the public light.

We are looking at their life away from the cameras and the characters they have played for us because we want to see what their true aspirations and goals are.

Some people find themselves in this situation out of their control as a result of personal issues that have brought them down this road, but there are also celebrities who made this decision on their own and found a life outside of Hollywood to aspire to.

Phoebe Cates – Philanthropy

She was a popular actress in Hollywood throughout the 1980s and starred in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Cates, though, made the decision to slow things down and leave Hollywood entirely in the 1990s. She chose to pursue other employment during this time as well as devote her attention to her family.

Cates has shifted her concentration to charitable work and actively promotes both juvenile diabetes awareness and other causes.

Gene Hackman – Novelist

When “Bonnie and Clyde” first hit the big screen in 1967, Gene Hackman’s name was a household one.

Hackman continued to act in movies during the 1990s, notably “Crimson Tide” in 1995, but his last appearance was in 2004. On Larry King that year, Hackman declared that he had no upcoming acting roles. Later, he produced three popular novels.

Carrie Henn – Teacher

Carrie Henn is another former Hollywood celebrity who chose to become a teacher instead of pursuing a career there. When Henn was 10 years old, she co-starred in the movie Alien with Sigourney Weaver, but after that, she declared she would not act again.

She only managed to have a brief acting career and led a life devoid of Hollywood. Even though she stood out in the movie as a young girl, she later changed her career to teaching and is now employed in an Atwater, California school.

Lark Voorhies – Author

The cast of the 1990s hit television show Saved by the Bell was well-known to its fans at the time. However, some of them disappeared after their prominence in the 1990s and pursued careers overseas.

Lark loved her time in Hollywood, but she ultimately decided to abandon her acting dream in favor of pursuing something else. Lark has achieved success as an author and avoided performing since deciding to quit Hollywood.

Jon Gosselin

When Jon & Kate Plus 8 became popular, Jon Gosselin and his family gained notoriety. However, after his divorce from Kate, the network decided to go with Kate instead of him. Having lost his

job, he returned to work. He worked multiple jobs at once as a waiter, DJ, and cook to support his family. He is apparently content despite a custody dispute with his ex-wife, has a girlfriend, and custody of two of his kids. Currently, if his LinkedIn profile is current, he works as an IT administrator.

Crystal McKellar

Becky Slater on The Wonder Years, which also starred Crystal McKellar’s sister Danica, was her breakout role. Even when the sisters were child stars, their family placed more value on education than performance.

She was a standout student who ultimately attended Yale, Oxford, and Harvard to study law. McKellar received her J.D. from Harvard and has been practicing law ever since. She offered legal advice to Mithril Capital Management, however, this relationship came to an unfavorable end in 2019.

Andrea Elson

Whiz Kids, a CBS sci-fi adventure program from the 1980s, was where Andrea Elson received her big break. She is most well-known for playing Lynn Tanner on the late 1980s television series ALF, which aired for four seasons. She progressively ceased performing in the 1990s, making fewer and fewer appearances. Evidently, she has happy memories of her time in the spotlight because she occasionally shares flashback photos and other sentimental content on social media. There doesn’t appear to be any desire to resume acting. She currently runs a blog and travels the country teaching yoga.

Ariana Richards

Ariana Richards rose to fame when she played the character of Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. She made the decision to stop acting in 2001 after that. She attended Skidmore College, where she received a degree in visual arts and drama, although she largely avoided acting, with the exception of a small appearance in 2013. She has been spending most of her time painting, which is considerably more laid back than being a famous actor.
